Waikato trio start for All Blacks; Whetu Douglas and Tevita Taufui make international debuts:
Damian McKenzie made his first All Blacks start as they conquered Italy in Rome.
The Chiefs and Waikato playmaker made his debut off the bench in the Rugby Championship against Argentina, in a 36-17 win in Buenos Aires last month.
McKenzie played at fullback, with two other Mooloos - Anton Lienert-Brown and Tawera Kerr-Barlow - also starting in the world champions' convincing 68-10 victory over Italy.
Chiefs openside flanker Sam Cane captained the side that outscored the Italians 10 tries to one at the Stadio Olimpico, with Aaron Cruden and Brodie Retallick also involved in Rome.
Two of Waikato's 2016 Mitre 10 Cup squad made their international debuts last weekend, with Whetu Douglas and Tevita Taufui representing New Zealand Maori and Tonga respectively.

Tevita Taufui was named Waikato's club player of the year after an outstanding season with Melville, who were crowned club rugby champions in July.

University No 8 Douglas, who has played for New Zealand Universities before, came off the bench to join Mooloos lock Jacob Skeen, who was making his second consecutive start after playing in the 54-7 win in Chicago.

But Maori suffered their first loss on their northern hemisphere tour, as Munster roared to a 27-14 victory in Limerick.
Chiefs winger James Lowe touched down for the game's first try, with Kane Hames (starting at loosehead prop) and Brad Weber also involved, with the halfback entering the fray in the 50th minute.
Munster's faithful created an intimidating atmosphere, with Thomond Park full to its capacity of 25,600.

The Maori made a touching tribute to Ireland and Munster legend Anthony Foley, who died last month, with captain Ash Dixon presenting a jersey with Foley's initials to his two sons just before their haka.
Maori's final tour game is against Harlequins in London on Thursday morning (NZ time).
Waikato and Melville midfielder Taufui made his international debut off the bench in Tonga's 28-13 victory over Spain at the Estadio Nacional Complutense in Madrid, which was the first ever test match between the two nations.

Taufui was named in Tonga's squad alongside former Chiefs back-rower Tevita Koloamatangi, who started at No 8, as Tonga secured their 100th test victory against Spain, who included former New Zealand universities representative Brad Linklater playing at fullback.

Tonga will face the United States and Italy in their final two tour matches, in San Sebastian and Padua respectively.

Mooloos halfback Pele Cowley was named on Samoa's bench as they faced France in Paris, but he didn't feature as the French eased to a 52-8 victory.

Samoa play Georgia in Tbilisi this weekend, before their final tour game against Canada in Grenoble.

Later that year they would play their initial international side, recording their first national win 13-4 when beating Ireland in Dublin.

The first to wear the famous black jersey, the side was originally conceived as an all-Maori selection and ultimately included just five non-Maori players in its ranks.

Conquerors of many internationals sides, including the British and Irish Lions, England, Ireland, while the last time they lost to a Pacific Island side was in 1973 (Tonga).

Originally team selected was ‘loosely’ governed in terms of heritage, but now all players must have Maori whakapapa or genealogy confirmed in order to represent the side.

Free-To-Air coverage of N. Hemisphere Maori All Blacks Rugby:
Maori Television follows 2016 Maori All Blacks Rugby Tour with Free-To-Air coverage of Northern Hemisphere games.
Maori Television will follow the Maori All Blacks as they travel the Northern Hemisphere on their 2016 Tour, broadcasting the 3 international games free to air throughout November.

This year sees the team travel to Chicago, Ireland and London in clashes against local teams as part of their Northern Hemisphere Tour, with the Maori All Blacks facing the USA Eagles as part of a double header the day before the All Blacks play Ireland.

Ireland’s Munster have a long standing competitive history with the All Blacks, being the only Irish senior men’s team to ever beat the All Blacks in an infamous 12 – 0 victory in 1978. With this game becoming the stuff of legends, there is no doubt that the Munster team will be bringing their A-game to the field when they encounter the Maori All Blacks’ entertaining style of Rugby for the very first time.
The Maori All Blacks will also face high profile English Premiership side Harlequin at their home ground of Twickenham as part of the clubs 150th year celebrations. This promises to be another epic encounter, with the Maori All Black’s keen to avenge their 11 – 5 loss to the Harlequins in 1926.
Maori All Blacks Head Coach Colin Cooper (Ngati Pukenga/Ngati Porou) comments “We are looking forward to heading to Chicago to play the USA Eagles. Playing any national side is an honour, and they’re a team that’s really cementing their place in international rugby. Our matches against Munster and Harlequins will also be very special as we love taking the Maori All Blacks’ style of rugby to other countries.”
